Hector Berlioz (11 December 1803 - 8 March 1869) was a French composer.
He is a key figure in the French romance and one of the pioneers in program music. His most famous work is Symphonie Fantastique. His colorful and sonorous works shook the contemporary music scene, even though he was the basis for the modern orchestral technique.
He also wrote three operas: Benvenuto Cellini, Trojans and Beatrice and Benedict as well as four symphonies: Symphonie Fantastique Op 14 of 1831, Harold in Italy, Romeo and Juliet and Symphonie Funebre a triomphale. In addition, six overtures: Eg Roman carnival opus 9 of 1844, King Lear, The Corsair. Chorus: Te Deum, Requiem Op 5 from 1837, L'Enfance du Christ and Damnation of Faust Rakoczy march from 1846), Nuits d'été, "Summer nights" opus 7 to 1841.
His music was not mirrored in France during his lifetime, and he had a living as a music critic, as well as an employee of the library at the Conservatory of Paris.
He was also a great conductor and visited all the important musical centers in 1800s Europe to direct their own works.
