Edvard Grieg (15 June 1843 - 4 September 1907) is the largest Norwegian composer and therefor an accomplished pianist. He is one of the few Nordic composers who have achieved world fame. Among his best-known compositions are music to Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.
Edvard Grieg was married to his cousin Nina Grieg, the famous concert pianist. He composed, inter alia, his piano concerto during a holiday with his in-laws, who lived in Soelleroed. Another of his popular works "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" he wrote in 1892 to his wife as the couple celebrated their silver wedding in their home Troldhaugen. In the evening sat Grieg down at the piano and played this tribute to his marriage.
