Ludwig van Beethoven (17 December 1770 - 26 March 1827) is considered one of the most important German composers and certainly the composer who has had the greatest influence on the development of German art music after 1800.
Around 1790 began Beethoven careers as itinerant pianist and piano teacher, but soon became equally famous in the aristocratic salons music for his temper bursts (he refused example. Playing when the audience talking) as for his obvious musical talents.
From 1819 he was so deaf that he was entirely dependent on that people wrote down what they would say to him. His music became increasingly experimental and introspective. In this last period, until his death, we find some of Romanticism's greatest musical monuments: The Ninth Symphony with the fourth movement, which contains the text of Schiller's Ode "Ode to Joy" in the grandiose setting for soloists and chorus, as well as the stunning intense and challenging "Missa Solemnis". At his death in 1827 was Beethoven almost completely isolated from its surroundings, pulled into themselves. He died as an economically very prosperous man. His birthplace in Bonn offers an interesting exhibition about the composer's life.
