Johannes Brahms (May 7, 1833 in Hamburg - April 3, 1897 in Vienna) was a German composer, pianist and conductor. He composed in all future genres except opera. The main works are the four symphonies.
The symphonic works Brahms was slow to start writing symphonic works. Orchestras ring caused him trouble, but he got in this area good help of the violinist Joseph Joachim and conductor Hans von Bülow, both of which remained his close friends for life. The first piano concerto of 1859 was not well received, and the following year it was only for two orchestral serenades. In 1874 came Haydn variations in both an orchestra and a piano version. Brahms began his first symphony almost simultaneously with serena circumstances, but it was 16 years in the making and was first premiered in 1876. Then came in quick succession 2 Symphony (1877), Violin Concerto (1879), Academic Festival Overture and the Tragic Overture (1880), 2nd Piano Concerto (1882), 3 Symphony (1883), 4 Symphony (1886) and finally Double Concerto for violin and cello (1888). This should also include major works for chorus and orchestra mentioned. In addition Ein deutsches Requiem (1868), these include about Rinaldo, cantata for tenor, chorus and orchestra (1869), Rhapsody of altsolo, choir and orchestra (1870), Schicksalslied and Triumphlied (1871-72).
