Today he is remembered, however, especially for a series of works for solo string instruments and orchestra.
His works are characterized by a great beauty of sound, elegant orchestral treatment, and not infrequently the virtuoso demands on the soloist. At the same time, his melodic style, often inspired by folk music, which makes it singable, catchy and distinctive. In his lifetime, he was highly prized throughout Europe.
