Mariss Jansons (14 January 1943) is a Latvian conductor.

Mariss Jansons was born in Riga, the son of conductor Arvid Jansons. He attended the Leningrad Conservatory, where he studied piano and Management. In 1969 he continued his studies in Vienna and Salzburg during Herbert von Karajan.

Mariss Jansons was born in Riga, the son of conductor Arvid Jansons. He attended the Leningrad Conservatory, where he studied piano and Management. In 1969 he continued his studies in Vienna and Salzburg during Herbert von Karajan.

His first concerts in Scandinavia had Jansons with the Copenhagen Philharmonic which he visited regularly for many years. In 1973, Jansons second conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra (then Leningrad Philharmonic). In 1979 he became chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1992 the London Philharmonic Orchestra and in March 1997 the musical director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

From September 2004 replacing Jansons Riccardo Chailly as chief conductor of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the world's most famous symphony orchestras.
