Alexander Glazunov (1865 - 1936) was a Russian composer.
Glazunov was equipped with an unusually safe ear and an amazing musical memory. He composed as early as 11-years-old. In 1879 Balakirev recommended him to seek lessons from Rimsky-Korsakov, and he developed with his words, not from day to day, but from hour to hour. The 16-year-olds First Symphony was premiered by Balakirev 29th marts 1882
He composed 8 symphonies, which earned him the designation "the Russian Brahms". Glazunovs violin concerto from 1904 is now his most performed work. In 1934 he wrote his first saxophone concerto.
As a ballet composer, he followed in the footsteps of Tchaikovsky's Raymonda from 1897 and Vremene goda in 1899
