Carl Orff (July 10, 1895 - March 29, 1982) was a German composer and music educator, trained in Munich where he 1950-1960 was a professor at the Conservatory. The most famous of all his works are Carmina Burana in 1936, a choral work by 21 medieval Latin and High German verses found in the monastery Benediktbeuern.

Carl Orff created in Schulwerk 1-5 (1931-54), a music education method, based on the development of children's sense of rhythm. Here was a list of instruments that were suitable for the purpose for which these instruments have since been nicknamed Orff instruments.

He composed the operas The wise girl, Moon and Antigonae. Cantatas: Carmina Burana (1936), Catulli carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. Oratorios: Comoedia de Christi Resurrectione and Ludus the nato Infante.
