Nu er det næppe nogen hemmelighed for mine trofaste læsere, at Shostakovich er en af mine egne yndlingskomponister, her er ægte vildskab som f.eks. i symfonierne 6, 7, 8, 10 og 13 ’Babi Yar’, og bløde behagelige toner i nr. 1, 2, 3, 14, og 15. Mest kendt er nok symfoni nr. 7 ”Leningrad. (Om tyskernes belejring af byen i 1941-42) Her får du dem alle en fuldstændig skamrost version, og denne hæder er fuldt fortjent.

Iflg. Shostakovich selv, var der kun tre dirigenter der var rigtig gode til at få den rette stemning frem i disse symfonier, og det var Rudolf Barshai, Yevgeni Mrawinsky og Kirill Kondrashin.
